Comment to this post, and I will list seven things I want you to talk about. They might make sense or they might be totally random.
Then post that list, with your commentary, to your journal. Other people can get lists from you, and the meme merrily perpetuates itself.

The first round is from [personal profile] ceitfianna!
It'd be great if I had more single, simple answers, I think )

Happy Galentine's Day
my thread

And, stolen from [personal profile] ceitfianna
Give me a pairing and I will write you at least a hundred words of them being together. Feel free to give me a lyric, an image, anything and a sense of would you like fluffy or sexy.

Even though I'm still working on prompts from the last one. The last ones are challenging!
bodldops: (cute kitten)
From this meme here, which is still open. BTW. Please?

I have been told I need to write about my favorite song lyric. There's a wee small problem with this.

I haven't one.

Or, I should say, I have lots, depending on my mood, what level of sleep deprivation I'm at, and, I'm sure, whether or not the aliens living behind the moon have got their radio on or not.

Here's a list instead!

There's others, I'm sure, but these at least made the short list. ... Actually there's lots. But yes, I could go on forever, so, stopping at five.

It's been a weird day. So here, a meme that I've seen around. Comments are screened, and it seems LJ has decided my e-mail account is crap, and is refusing to cross-post. Which. Just makes me more cranky at LJ.

Leave me a topic to write a post about. Serious, funny, anything in between. Comments are screened.

Your result for The Perception Personality Image Test...

NBPC - The Daydreamer

Nature, Background, Big Picture, and Color

You perceive the world with particular attention to nature. You focus on the hidden treasures of life (the background) and how that fits into the larger picture. You are also particularly drawn towards the colors around you. Because of the value you place on nature, you tend to find comfort in more subdued settings and find energy in solitude. You like to ponder ideas and imagine the many possibilities of your life without worrying about the details or specifics. You are in tune with all that is around you and understand your life as part of a larger whole. You are a down-to-earth person who enjoys going with the flow.

Symposium is over, I'm just waiting the half-hour before my shuttle gets here in the non-smoke-filled sanctuary of my room. It's amazing how much you take the public smoking laws of CA for granted until you come somewhere where they aren't. My sinuses don't love me.

More five things meme! This time from [ profile] vivien529
Being an awesome vet
I try to be. And after this symposium, that includes running an awesome hospital. It can totally happen.
Saving Mr. Julia
That was, entirely, the most cracktastic thing ever. I can't watch the HP movies and see the giant squid without thinking that the squid had better stay put this time, 'cause Ace might have a conniption fit if she has to chase it down again.

Are evidence that there is a God, and he wants us to be happy. :D But they have to be made right - the marshmallow has to be a dark golden brown all the way around (including the top, y'slackers).

All Creatures Great and Small
I love all versions of this (even if they have evidently re-named the books (whut) - from the beginning where poor James is riding the bus to some Yorkshire town he's never even heard of before to meet a boss he convinces himself is an ex-Nazi who will murder him for accidently smiling at the mistress to when he's reflecting on how his daughter wants to be a large animal vet and how it might actually be possible, whereas he couldn't see her doing it old-school style. It's all still so very, very true.

pretty photos
I love taking pictures. I always have, but then I got a digital camera, and all bets were off 'cause then I could take, like, 100's of pictures and actually get some post-worthy ones!

And now I need to run. Hopefully my plane won't get delayed - yesterday I was in Vegas 6 hours overtime thanks to weather in San Francisco.

Random note: I'm watching (sorta) some weird news program while I write (just for the noise, I think) but an ad just came on for the Gulf Coast, and what a great tourist spot it is. Paid for by: BP oil.

So I spent all morning learning how to place bone pins, and got a great shoulder workout. Owie?

Round two of the five words meme! From [ profile] wanderlustlover
I think the reason I like roleplay is it allows me to explore all sorts of interesting ideas - the light =/= nice or good from Night Watch, or how the wildly dangerous and fantastic life of a teenager living with a Time Lord changes the way she looks at the universe and herself.

I have some? I am, however, the introvert queen, so it's hard for me to keep in touch. La?

I actually chose birds (and behavior) as focuses for my animal science BS degree. I spent two years working at the poultry research facility at UCD, where I fell in love with tiiiiiiiny little Japanese quail (so cute!) and swore to never ever get a parrot (so not cute!). I actually do not practice veterinary medicine on birds - I know way too little about them, and by the time many owners notice ikkle birdie isn't doing well, it's about two breaths away from dying. So.

Like RP, this is an opportunity to explore all those strange new worlds - just on a larger scale than RP, since you can control more of the bits. I really do need to get all my fics logged in under one name. I have two names on, and some of those fic (while in need of minor revision) are actually still on my 'y'know, I did pretty good there' list.

The tag line for Cirque du Soleil is 'Impossible is Just a Word'. And in some ways, this is very true. I was told it would be impossible for me to go directly from a home-schooled high-school life to a UC campus. I was told it would practically be impossible for me to go to UCD Vet Med. I was told it would be impossible for me to walk normally afer destroying my ACL at 15.
So c'mon. What else is impossible? Bring it.
bodldops: (Urahara)
Got your card, Aspen! It's so cute! :D Thank you!

Comment to this post, and I will list five things I associate with you, They might make sense or they might be totally random. Then post that list, with your commentary, to your LJ (or just add a reply back to me). Other people (including me) can get lists from you, and the meme merrily perpetuates itself.

So, the first round goes to [ profile] ceitfianna

My earliest memory of veterinary medicine is James Herriot on PBS - the world of Trickie Woo, Yorkshire farmers, hillsides covered with snow or wind-swept fields or fluffy fluffy sheep, crazy-ass bosses, and lots and lots of animals.

Just the opening music makes me grin. And if you haven't read the books, go do so. Tragically, a lot of his gripes are NOT EXAGGERATIONS.
I did my undergraduate work at UCD, as an animal science major, which is more about herd management and such than veterinary medicine, but it satisfied all the pre-reqs, and I did spend a memorable winter quarter getting up way before the crack of dawn to spend 2-3 mornings a week at the sheep barn playing with bebe sheeps working in the sheep barn. There were hay hooks, amateur surgeries, and pocket knives involved. Good times. Besides, our major had the best barbeques by default. Very much so didn't get into vet school on my first attempt, not through lack of trying. Went to vet tech school instead, and while I was getting my AS in that, I spent two years working at a local shelter, getting all sorts of crazy experience. It's there I picked up Martha the Wondercat. Did get into UCD VetMed the second time, also got into University of Florida, and almost got into University of Washington. Spent four years working my ass off getting through killer classes and endless labs, learned to love coffee and all of its wakeful goodness, started pulling my first all-nighters, experienced surgery at 2am, experienced doing an ultrasound on a horse (protip: the probe does nothing from outside the horse. Think about it.) which is an ungodly filthy experience, learned that I still cannot develop a love for pigs and that horse people are crazy and small animal people can be crazier, and that cookies are a viable form of payment. I've been a vet for two and a half years, and... thank you, James Alfred Wight. It really is an awesome job. Despite the crazies.
And yes, that does mean that thanks to all that school, my name can have seven letters after it, at my most ridiculous - Bodldops, AS BS DVM

Doctor Who
So, my introduction to the world of Doctor Who came when Fox Network got together with the BBC to create what is essentially the 8th doctor's screen canon.

It was horrific.

Based on that? Odds are I would have never watched anything in that canon ever again.

When I was 18, just starting my undergrad career, I got a summer internship at a local vet ER/specialty center. They put me on the graveyard shift to start, so I started staying up super late to try and shift my internal clock over before I had to work, so I'd actually do some good. I was flipping through channels, and to my shock and glee, there was Tristan Farnon! (See clip above)
Except it wasn't.

It was this fellow. I only caught the last twenty minutes, so it was fairly incomprehensible, but it looked like fun. So on my next trip to the library, I looked for more videos of this Doctor Who stuff. When I found them, I could have sworn the lead character didn't look right, and I was afraid I'd remembered the name of the show wrong, but... hey, nothing ventured, right?
I was right, the lead guy was wrong.

It was this fellow. :D Sylvester McCoy, you are my Doctor. In all your zany, manipulative glory.

It's where I live! I've actually always lived here - and I rather like it. I've played with the idea of living other places - Colorado, Washington... but... yes. California.

So, waaay back, I played on the NeoPets board. Which is, on the whole, horrific. However, there was one group that played a group of hares from Salamandastron. Bonus points if you know what that is without wikipedia. I played a medico hare with a penchant for getting hit over the head. That group slowly died, so I found a new group - LotR, in which I played Elrohir and a Gondorian Ranger named Sallyn. There was unknown Rohirrim princess, the entire Peredhil family, a couple dwarves... and of course the requisite Mary Sue characters. There were many good threads. But like all good things, it was slowly winding to an end.
And then I saw a post on my LJ flist about Mways. I decided Ace would be a good option to test the waters, and... yeah. Still going. :D

So, I was convinced to watch Night Watch... which lead to reading Night Watch... which lead to reading Day Watch... which is leading to reading Twilight Watch, but I'm working on that. And in the books, there's a sparkly, bold-as-brass, downright lethal gal who totally gets downplayed in all the books and fandom (along with pretty much any pup who isn't Sveta, Anton, or Olya).
So yeah, I took the crazy Russian tiger. La. :D

Here's that 'first sentence of the month' meme thing!

January!: And it's a new year!
February: So, I've at least partially finished my big goal for today, which was 'revamp resume'
March: It's 3 in the morning, do you know where your vet student is?
April: So, vacation week was wonderful, I've got four clinics I'm getting replies from, I'm taking my state boards on Saturday...
May: Fic for [info]fightingthecage, from here.
July: Today I start my new job yay!
August: Woke up inexplicably cranky this morning.
September: I actually got up early and worked out this morning.
October: Alright, it's my weekend, so I've a list of things I need to do today if I want to go hiking tomorrow (see me being all adultish and whatnot?)
November: a) I've started NaNoWriMo.
December: Re: Trans-Siberian Orchestra:

All in all, actually, it's been a rather cheerful year.

In other news, we spent quite a lot of today up in a gorgeously snowy Yosemite. Pics will go up probably tomorrow, but... seriously people. Gorgeous. And the falls are flowing again! And the deer really really don't give a damn about the tourists.

EDIT: And I can reveal Yuletide now! My donation for my year 1 is: Before the Storm, a Sir Percy Blakeney/Scarlet Pimpernel fic which tragically has no chappeu-bras (despite being quite bemused by them) and in which, somehow, I miss-spelled M. Chauvelin's name persistently.

Get your own Twelve Days:

This amuses me a lot more than it should. Possibly because it is very nearly very very early in the morning.

Still need a Christmas icon, mrrr.

Fandoms: Star Wars, Star Trek (Original, TNG, after that things will get dodgy), Lord of the Rings (ask for obscure elves and I'll make faces at you), Doctor Who, Torchwood, Knight Rider, Castle, Bleach, anything else you think I might know.

One of the most hilarious things seen today: Adult Sparkle!pire clothing. Seriously, I cracked up in the store. For the record, Sparkle!pires can not be asked for in above meme, because I haven't read the book. I don't think I could take it.

Meme! With the caveat that I retain the right to refuse requests, and that I am abysmally slow sometimes about transferring pictures from camera to internets (lalala pictures from last summer still on the camera la):

1. Ask me to take pictures of any aspect of my life you're curious about.
2. I'll snap the pictures and post them in future posts.

I know that exercise is good for me. After nearly a month of no regular exercise other than dashing around the hospital, two days in a row is fantastic.

What's not fantastic is my currently-not-as-fit-as-it-was body feeling like it has been beaten with particularly large sticks.

Remember 'Run Fatboy Run', the scene riiiight after the spin class, where Dennis is sprawled on the locker room floor? Yes, like that, just without the powder (say thankya). Though there was the greatest line in that movie, and one you know I'll be thinking every time someone feels the need to comment on my weight.

Anyway. Two more days, and then it's back to the hospital grind. Maybe I'll get some cool cases. Maybe with the power of Ettinger backing me up, I won't be as much of an idiot. Maybe it will be much like last year, just with a graduation ceremony in the middle.

Got my hair cut today. Once it dries and goes all curly-like (which is does much better, at the moment), it only just brushes my shoulders. Which means I really do need to discover a good way for keeping it out of my face while on duty, without succumbing to the horrors of the minuscule pony-tail. The hair that was cut off is just about long enough for Locks of Love, so it'll be heading that-a-way once I find a padded envelope. Yes, it had been a really long time since my last hair cut. Try years. Srsly.

Have discovered that while I am finally able to beat Civ III by world domination, I can only do that on the default difficulty setting. Up one level, and everyone wants to go to war with you, and develop tanks entirely too fast. Spoil-sports. I'll go back down a level and return to beating up on archers with my mechanized infantry. Neener.

Saw little shelves for plants, that have full-spectrum light sources built in. I'd have to get some of those if I ever moved up north, to defeat the winter BLAH due to the sun mysteriously disappearing and betraying all of us who need natural light to not go wailing to Ben & Jerry's for Chocolate Therapy.

Driving home tomorrow morning - slightly tragic, since it seems we just got here, and I'll have one week of Orthopedics before getting dumped into Neurology where I'm going to get my butt kicked. Awesome.
We didn't find any cute Christmas cards today (they were all rather.... eh), but we did get mint cocoa from Starbucks, and we found the missing Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory (even if their employees were lazy layabouts), and we got movies and stuff for mint chocolate brownies.
And I finished my book, and basically didn't think about school all day.

A meme stolen from everyone:
1. Stop talking about politics for a moment or two.
2. Post a reasonably-sized picture in your LJ, NOT under a cut tag, of something pleasant, such as an adorable kitten, or a fluffy white cloud, or a bottle of booze. Something that has NOTHING TO DO WITH POLITICS.
3. Include these instructions, and share the love.

In other news, my Behavior resident is making me re-do most of my record for my appointment the other day, because it's not in the order they like. Even after I asked repeatedly how to do Behavior records, because I knew there was a certain trick to it. And they told me to just do it and see what happens. This? Is what happens. DUH. *facepalms muchly*

Exhibit A:
Adopt one today!

It's not the most pretty egg ever, but I have Great Hopes for it. Srsly.

In other news, I actually got a surprised sort of good job on one of my answers in rounds today. Knowing the topic ahead of time and researching pays off. Occasionally.

In other, other news, at the risk of sounding deeply masochistic, I think Medicine was better with fewer students on. I dunno. It is nice not having an inpatient though, just for the 'I can wake up at 630 rather than start my treatments at that time' factor.
