So, I finally watched (most of) the finale for DW. Missed the first 10 minutes or so, but I caught on fairly fast.
Well. Over all? Not a fan of the finale. Really not.
1) I liked the Jack-Mickey reunion. That was awesome.
2) I... was really happy that Donna got to play hero. Until we found out she was only able to play hero because she was made into an uber-human-time-lord-thing by the Doctor. RTD, Mary Sue is seriously not a fun and interesting plot character. Seriously.
3) Dalek Sec was driving me up the everloving wall by the end. Just. I know he's crazy. And a Dalek. But the cackling was horrific.
4) I liked that Mickey decided to restart his life on home!Earth. I'll even buy that Mickey and Jack in Torchwood might be fun.
But Martha too?
I love Martha, don't get me wrong, but she's getting awfully 'omg I iz totally made of awesome and thus so superior', and... I feel sorry for Ianto and Gwen. Frankly, I think, in Torchwood? Owen and Tosh were more interesting characters. Mrr.
5) Rose... won me over for half of the episode. She was her old self again, not the lovesick puppy she'd become. Annnnd then they went back to Norway, and I could even buy her wanting the real Doctor over what I take is the Doctor clone thing from the extra hand. Yeah, I'd want the real Doctor too. But. Snogging the clone like you're trying to take his face off when he does what you know the 'real Doctor' can't? And then trying to be all 'WAUGH REAL DOCTOR' again after, you know, snogging his clone like that right in front of him? Made of fail, Rose. No sympathy here.
6) *sighs* Davros, how far you've fallen. I wanted to like Davros. I love the old Davros episodes. But. It sounded like an almost exact repeat of the Davros episode with Seven and Ace, just with more whining.
7) Okay, the flying home bit? SAPPY AS HELL AND SO NOT APPRECIATED.
8) Sarah Jane was actually pretty good here. AND K9 WHEE! Good dog.
9) Am still very annoyed there weren't mentions of other old companions. Might have to write fic to fix this. Srsly, Tegan and Ian and Barbara and Mike and Jo and the Brig and everyone else just standing still? Whut?
10) I... will admit I appreciated that at least RTD followed through on the consequences of what happened to Donna. AND OMG TRAGIC, guys. But I am sad Donna is gone, and effectively completely written out forever. WHAT ABOUT HER PERFECT HUSBAND AT THE LIBRARY WAUGH. That was cold, RTD. So cold. There was crying when she was begging not to have her memories taken. Waugh. Also, the Grandpa still rocks. And yay for the mom finally realizing how awesome her daughter is.
All in all? Some good moments, but mostly? That was bad.
