The One That Comes Before Poison Sky
Love. So much love. From the return of the Sontarans and the awkward UNIT leader (GLEEEEE UNIT episode!) and Donna not throwing a shit storm when suddenly there's two companions... On the other hand, Martha is very... 'omg look Doctor I can totally live without you look are you looking WAUGH'. It's very weird. And possibly those two UNIT soldiers that got brainwashed by the Sontarans are the stupidest soldiers going.
Also. Also. GRAND-DAD. He's back! And made of awesome, yet again! So glad he got cast there.
And defeating a Sontaran with a racket ball has to be my new favorite method of ever. Also, the Atmos voice is very very creepy, but I think that's intentional.
Poison Sky
Even better than the first part. There's 'are you my mummy' and the Brig in Peru (!!!!!) and genius boy figuring out the difference between having a brain and using a brain, and Donna and Martha being all team-y.
Um. Major creepy points for how the Doctor made veryvery sure the clone knew she was going to die before pulling the plug. That was exceedingly cold-blooded. Brr.
Also, for Donna storming the Sontaran ship and re-opening the portals - I wonder if (and this is me pretending they're real for a second) she thought that here, this is how all of his companions turn into soldiers - they get stuck in an impossible situation, and then they hear the Doctor's 'I'm sorry, I'm so sorry, but you have to do this or Earth/the universe/this station is toast'. And what can you say to that (if you're a companion), no? Sorry, I'm going to stay right here and let my family and everyone else choke to death on poison gas? Of course, Donna was so much fun sneaking around that ship. "It needs three fingers!" "... You have three fingers." "... Oh. Right." *snickers*
On a lighter note - the female UNIT officer kissing the captain guy. *SNORK* Sadly, Bambera and Anselyn they are not. Even if he did have moments of brilliance. Which the Doctor pointedly failed to congratulate.
Also, again. GRAND-DAD AWWWWWWWWWW. So made of awesome, he is.
Also, reason number... lots that I love Donna - she rightfully smacks his self-sacrificing self for scaring her after genius boy takes his place as Chief Sontaran Burnmaster. I also love the way Martha grins at her for that.
I think that genius boy figured out he wasn't as clever as he thought he was when he went back to the Sontaran ship and learned there wasn't another planet, and that he and his 'students' were going to be target practice, and nothing more. Of course, crying in the transporter thingy was just pathetic.
And finally - Rose appearance #2! What the heck was that? It was so short I thought I'd imagined it, but it was still there when I played it again. Hacking into the TARDIS, honey? Not wise, even for the semi-romantic lead. *siiiiighs* Why must Rose come back?
The Doctor's Daughter
Whut.
Just.
Whut.
Okay, good things: Jenny had some good moments, and I actually started liking her near the end there. And the toy mouse. :D And I liked how it ended up the war was only going on for seven days (though, that begs the question - that old guy was older than seven days, even if he was a clone - accelerated aging? Would that have happened to Jenny? Weird. He should have known the truth. Or maybe he did - since he refused to lay down arms). And of course Donna being clever and figuring it out, that's awesome. I also loved him talking about his family and WHAT already has a daughter now that's not fair give us DETAILS. Now, on to the rest of it.
- First and foremost - Jenny at large in the universe. No. NO NO NO. Bad whoever wrote this. probably RTD, right? Just. No. It smacks of 'kid-oriented spin-off'. What, SJA not working out for you? She's too... perfect. Let's face it, she's a Mary-Sue. All of the DW characters are flawed, even the Doctor, that's why we love them. She has no flaws. She can talk the Doctor to a standstill, she can do gymnastics, she develops a moral consciousness in five minutes, she's bright and perky and cheerful and her mascara never runs. Somehow two grown beings manage to lose her between one frame and another and she steals a shuttle. She's... augh, I liked her better dead. Up until the point she semi-regenerated I thought she was pretty good, for a character that's going to be bad no matter how you slice it. And then she came back. AUGH. Kill it with fire.
- Martha and her fish. Just. It was all so... Here you're an alien that must mean that I am awesomer and here follow me around even when I have daft plans (because secretly I love trudging across wasted lands in the cold in a noble fashion) and... augh. Martha was also sue-ing it up a bit, if not to the same degree as Jenny. Suuuure, the Hath are going to love you despite the fact that they should be as stubbornly hateful of humans as the humans are of them. *facepalm* She certainly got over the fish in a hurry once she found the Doctor.
... That pretty much was the rest of it, wasn't it? Not much plot, waaaaay too much Jenny show. Please don't come back, Jenny. Please.
In non-these-three-episodes related news: The 4x8, the spooky episode, is in a library? MADE OF AWESOME!
In other news, had lots of very weird dreams last night, and a brief moment of panic re: due dates, but. Going for a run now.
