Memishness and a real update! *shock*

Work's been cool, but scary. The scary bit came on Wednesday. We had a puppy brought in to the hospital that was having grand mal seziures, flopping around like a puppy rag doll. We all (techs) leapt on, trying to keep him on the table and not hurting himself. Only then did Dr. Chad mention, "Oh, and this could be rabies.". O.O *curses* None of us were wearing gloves. No one got bit, and the puppy was put down with head to lab, so hopefully there will be no post-exposure rabies shots. *crosses fingers* We'll know soon. I managed to get myself all worked up and sent a worried e-mail to my manager, who now probably thinks I'm a paranoid freak. Ah well. She replied saying that if the results come back positive, nearly everyone in the shelter will have to get those shots. Not be asked, told. As in do you want your job told. *sighs happily* Rabies is dang scary. It's one of the few zoonotic disease where there is no cure or treatment. You get it, you die. End of story. *shivers*
The cool bit is where Dr. Chad let me suture up a dog. Wheee! Took me forever and a day, but I got it done. Chad was probably wondering what I was playing at, taking so long. It's hard to move the little needle with the needle holders! I felt very fumbly. The sutures were partially pulled out today, but I don't feel so bad about it, since I was re-suturing a cut that he had sutured a few days before, so it has a history of ripping back open. Not all of the stitches ripped though, some held. *is happy about that*
On the not-happy-I-have-lost-faith-in-humanity front, we have a cruelty case in the hospital. Will lj-cut for those who really don't want to hear it.

Sis has fallen in love with one of the neighborhood cats. She's feeding him (I'm almost sure it's a him - as sure as I can get without actually looking at the pertinant details). She's also feeding the gorgeous dilute tortie and her little kitten. I should trap them and take them to work with me. We're considering adopting sis's cat. It's a stunning long-hair orange tabby. Hmmm... Hey Martha, want a playmate?
*sigh* Artemis, did I say something wrong? You're awful quiet... *sighhopefulpoke*
I'm thiiiiis close to having the first chapter of a Animal Shelter based drama ready for beta. I just can't stand the end. It's... non-endy. Blarg. *beats her word processer with a stick a la Yoda* Workworkworkwork! Heh!
