Aug. 29th, 2007 11:57 pmSo, I've got a problem. Three weeks into the new school year, I have to declare which track I'm going to take for senior year. Also, at the beginning of the year, I have to choose between two classes, both of which I want to take. No, I can't pick either of them up somewhere else.
So, do I declare in the Small Animal track, or the Small Animal/Equine track?
Yes, the main problem here is I want a pony, damnit.
SA Pros:
- I'll get to spend more time on all the cool little small animal specialties - Behavior, Cardiology, Shelter, Dentistry, Orthopedic Surgery, and so on and so forth.
- There are more job opportunities on the West Coast (i.e. CA and WA) for small animal practitioners.
- I have a lot more experience with small animals.
- The class that I'd be taking this quarter for small animal? Would be good for me to take (Medicine and Surgery of exotic pocket pets)
- I do actually own a cat (and once had rabbits), making me able to honestly answer the question (Doc, if it were your (fill in the blank), what would you do?
- Most likely working in a air-conditioned building.
SA Cons:
- Less likely to work in a large animal/equine setting
- Seven weeks in SA Medicine rotation. *fears*
SA/E Pros:
- I had a lot of fun doing the equine field service last summer
- It's very different work than what I've done before, making it interesting.
- Two words: Big Truck (okay, so that's not a serious pro, but really. Big Truck)
- No toy dogs.
- The class I'd be taking this quarter for equine? BABY HORSES.
SA/E Cons:
- The James Herriot Special of dark barns, emergency cases, ornery big animals that can stomp you. (P.S. Anyone who doesn't know who James Herriot is needs to read the books. For serious.)
- Not as many job opportunities out here.
- No Banfield externships (Dude. SA has an emergency externship to NEW YORK CITY at a 24 hour emergency clinic. Yes the one that was on Oprah. WHEE)
- Getting stomped on/squished/stomped on and squished/bitten, stomped on, and squished
- I do not actually own a pony. Thus, I would not be able to honestly answer the question of "Doc, if it were your (fill in the blank), what would you do?"
- Am not a horsey person. I ride sometimes (I kinda suck, but it's fun), I like horses, but I didn't grow up with them, ever own them, did not compete with them, and so on and so forth. I think that'd translate. A lot.
LA.
Anyway, in other news:
- Am uploading pictures from a zip drive to my desktop computer. So hopefully there will be picspam updates of more vacation pics and the apartment of DOOM.
- There is a movie with Viggo Morgenstein coming out. ... I totally spelled his name wrong, huh? Anyway. Viggo. With a passable Russian accent (to my ears, anyway). Shirtless in scenes. With a giant tattoo on his back. I may have to watch it just for eye candy. Yum.
- My new roommate seems sane. Really! This is something of a miracle, considering my history with roommates. I've covered most types of insane, from the silent (she left little notes on post-it notes all over the apartment) to the raving, ultimately messy lunatics (the last group).
- Cam? I submit that 'Bowling for Soup' should make up the Ghostbuster's soundtrack. Why? I was listening to the radio yesterday, and they came on doing a little promo spot for the station, and that DJ (Dana). The spot goes thus: "We are Bowling for Soup, and there is no Dana. There is only ZUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUL." Awesomesauce.
