I overheard my mom a while back talking to her sister about how she'd gone and seen her OB-GYN, and as a side conversation, talked about me. I was twelve, and apparently, he'd been betting on when I'd get my first period. I was like, WTF? Goes to show why you never listen in on conversations. Really.
I don't want no man but my husband looking at my nether parts. I just would not feel comfortable. I got a woman gyno. If you don't want a man, stick to that. It's your body, your comfort level, YOUR choice. Not your mom's.
If you haven't had sex, tell the gyno to use a pediatric speculum/smallest one they have. Trust me on this.
RELAX. You are making WAY more out of this than you need to. First, the majority of the exam is like getting a physical at your GP's office. Second, what discomfort there might be when the gyno examines the inside of your vagina and your cervix is NOT something you need general anethesia for. And chances are, the gyno will know right off the bat when you tell them you've never had sex to use the smallest speculum they have, because they have experience with this kind of thing. You do not need to worry like you are. What are you so freaked out over?
Well, beyond the whole 'doctors drive me bonkers' issue, the thought of anyone looking down there freaks me out. Stupid, I know. I'm a medical professional, I should know better than this. But still. Eee? I don't want the anesthesia for pain, I want it to knock me out cold so I don't remember this... Yes. I'm being stupid. I know. I'll get over it. Mostly because with my luck, I'll get my period while in London, along with the cramps from hell, and I want good drugs so I don't wreak my vacation.
