Dear PubMed:
I just want one (1) reasonable peer-reviewed article on the toxic effects of aminoglycosides, and how to Dx, if such a thing is possible.
Plz to be stop giving me articles on diabetes mellitus. No really. It's getting annoying.
Cautious love,
Me

Dear Toxicology Prof:
Could this history be more vague? Srsly. It's basically 'cat is lethargic. Cat is more lethargic. Cat continues to get more lethargic OH NOES! Oh, it's drinking and urinating a lot too. And there may have been an injection of some sort in the last three visits.' At least tell me what it originally presented to the rDVM for to get 'gastritis' off of a lethargic cat! Also, what does a high-rise have to do with anything? Falling does not cause acute renal failure. Or gastritis. Really.
*facepalm*
Thanks so much for the complete lack o'history,
Me

*siiiigh*

Also, a dilemma:
One of the big food companies on campus is putting on a free dinner in Old Sac at the end of next month. I need to sign up by Friday, though. It's a cool murder/mystery/theater thing, which sounds awesome. And? Free good dinner, on the Delta King no less. Haven't been there since I graduated undergrad.
Downside: It's on a Friday night, at 6pm. That's cutting it pretty dang close for tango at 8 (or 9, if I just go to the advanced tango).
So. Free food and murder/mystery fun? Or tango?

And this week on Biggest Loser... )

I feel all terribly on top of things today. Think I did well on my SA/Equine Med midterm, got the garden replanted (and took pics), started on laundry, am now in the process of putting my room back to rights and getting the dishes done. Who knows, I might even vacuum and clean bathrooms. It's just that sort of day.

Oh, saw the first new Torchwood of the second season!
Kiss Kiss Bang Bang )

1) Am going to go sign up for tango, which starts tonight, and then to Cowell Student Health to... *gulp* Make appointments of various sorts. The week after next I have almost nothing to do, so.

WAUGH.

Anyway.

2)>.> 2 hours of listening to two classmates I don't know very well talk about whether or not they are getting any or if their friends and how this effects moods...

Annnnd then there's me. Plz to be shutting up now. Or I'll just have to be cranky at you, mustn't I? *grumbles*

3) I feel like this week has hit me like a ton of bricks. It's probably just because it was a week with a surgery in, which always makes hours horrifically long and painful. It it just VERY GOOD that it is the weekend now.

4) There is no four. It's an illusion. That, and I like round numbers.

EDIT:
5) Why is it 'Men's Health' services provides tobacco addiction support and counseling, and 'Womans Health' doesn't? Whut? Not that it affects me either way, but women smoke too! *stares at webpage*

Morning, this be it. I find this tragically unfair - why did morning have to come so early today? But I'm going in extra early so I can walk Fozzie and then change into my scrubs to do AM exam of Nala and get this surgery train started.

Oh, it's gonna be a coffee day.
bodldops: (Default)
*facepalm* Because you know the thing I really needed before my projected 4 HOUR SURGERY tomorrow is killer cramps of doom.

*chews Midol and sulks*

In other news, my surgery dog? A cute little fawn pit bull named 'Nala'. Who is in heat, but no matter, I'll fix that soon enough.

Also, my daffodils are still pretty.
bodldops: (cute kitten)
Moment of glee for today:

My old (smaller) scrub bottoms fit.

\o/

*wanders off to go deal with my new surgical patient and Frank. Who are not the same creature. Thankfully.*
bodldops: (cute kitten)
a) Peppermint mocha for breakfast - Good!

b) Frank starting up again with her old tricks - Not Good!

At least there is Amazing Race tonight? Even if my Goth Bunnies are gone, woe.

Also?

OMG DOING A SPAY TOMORROW ABDOMINAL SURGERY WAUGH PLZ TO BE LETTING ME HAVE A GOOD DOG WAAAAUGH!

So, one of my classes is going to try to kill me with study questions that have to be turned in and may be graded.

But it doesn't have a final.

I'm still deciding if this is a good thing or a bad thing.

Also, it is cold. And raining. And because I was working on the study questions, I haven't taken Fozzie out yet.

>.>

Just as well I don't have to cook tonight. LA.

This just discovered: The little mood kitties have the same expression for 'cold' as they do for 'hot'. O.o
bodldops: (Default)
Went and got Fozzie from his kennel.

AM SOAKED.

IT IS COMING DOWN IN SHEEEEETS.

Brr.

Fozzie thinks this is the BEST THING EVER though.

Also, the weather means I probably won't be going home this weekend. So celebrating sis' b-day might be Right Out.

Mrr.

Remind me again why I climbed out of my nice warm bed this morning?
bodldops: (school hard)
So, other than my rather non-spectacular performance in Neurology?

All B's and two A's (Orthopedics, a total sleeper class, and Exotics Med, where I seriously kicked butt).

Also, the official Neurology grade is not in. Am hoping, probably futilely considering my inability to remember all things neurological (freshman neurology was an agonizing ordeal of hate), that I actually did better than what they said, because... um. I would have had to have gotten the exact same grade on both tests. Which. You know. Studying hard for a week and a half on the dang thing, I should get a better grade on the second, yes?

It's probably still a C-. But.

I can hope, right?

Also?

B's and A's. :D!!!

Why yes, I am moodswingy with grades. I like doing well. It is a thing.

Lalala went back in my transcript to see what, exactly, I got in freshman neurology (C), and saw that that was the v.v.v. bad quarter that had Cardio in (WAUGH). That was... not a fun three months. Nope.

Also, we went to Whole Foods today, the ginormous one that is roughly the size of a Costco (just more organic), and there was ooooohing and aaaaawing over tiny one-person tea kettles, and the tiny little saltcellers with their tiny little spoons. There was also drooling over the fancy chocolates, laughing at the ones named 'Tetons', and consumption of chocolate hazelnut ice cream (YUM).
I also finished the first of twelve Christmas ornaments (Twelve Days of Christmas theme) I've been working on - I'll need to pick up the pace if I'm going to get them done by Christmas. Probably won't happen. But it is awful cute.
We also iced the gingerbread cookies the other day - not the most professional job in the world, but it was fun.
Also, why do they not sell pasties and samosas with meat in here? Why? *misses them*

Last note: I would not think it a good idea for a OB:GYN to have a book titled "What to Expect When Your Wife is Expanding" on your waiting-room table. Just sayin'.

One down, one to go. I think I did alright. Did pull a couple answers out of thin air (reason for sx on a pancreatitis case? A: Evidence of abdominal autolysis. Makes sense in my head, yes). But. One more.

LALALALALA
bodldops: (Default)
Two more tests.

Two more tests today.

I can do this.

Two more tests and cramps.

...

Dear Universe: You're not playing fair. You're not even playing a good dirty. Grrr.

I can still do this.

*wanders off to arm self with coffee*

EDIT: Finally got my Exotics Med Final back: A :D
Dunno if this leaves me with a high B+ or a low A-, but I'll take it.
*goes back to preparing a Chuck Norris-type welcome for SA Med Final and Equine Med Final*

Also, I find irony that I get the highest grade in the section of the class dealing with the animals I want to treat the least (Reptiles and Fish vs. the Small!Fuzzy!Animals! sections of class)

EDIT2: PLIT (the AVMA's major insurance program) leaves us little fliers now and again to warn us about the liability claims people make in the Real World. Some of them are reasonable, and I feel kinda sorry for this one poor schmuck who, while he did screw up, thought his boss was covering his insurance and... um. wasn't.

But the winner: The gal who sued her vet after she (the owner) failed to follow the vet's instructions for diabetes. *FACE. PALM* Can the vet sue back for having to deal with the stupid?
bodldops: (Sarah Jane Smith)
1) Final number 2 (Orthopedics) sent away with a bloody nose. Yay! \o/ Just two more tomorrow and I'm DONE.

...

Two more tomorrow. WAUGH.

2) It was so hard getting up this morning. Mostly because it was VERY COLD. Yes, 41 degrees is cold. Hush.

3) Lalala thanks SO MUCH Dr. M for not putting your slides in the resources, and sending them in an e-mail instead. That doesn't at all mean I'll accidentally miss them and have a minor freak-out last night because I couldn't find your info. Grr.

4) Can it be Wednesday afternoon now? Plz?

5) Have discovered the coffee at the tiny Starbucks kiosk is cheaper than school coffee. Tastes better too. Methinks I won't be getting school coffee that often. Also? They are selling mint dark chocolate bars at the tiny Starbucks kiosk. *drool*

6) Still no mint kisses in evidence from Hersheys. F- for Hersheys, srsly.

7) Meme, stolen from [livejournal.com profile] camwyn
Give me two characters from different fandoms you know I'm familiar with, and I'll give you a dialogue happening between the two of them. Without justifying how the crossover would work, how their worlds clashed, or how they could even meet each other. Just a silly crossover conversation with no backstory, for fun.

In other news: one final down! *cheers*

ETA: Final grade for Opthomology: B! \o/

First: Love Meme

Second: There must be something about Neuro exams that make me have really really weird dreams the night before. This round included Housemate and I frantically running around getting ready for our exams because all of the electronic alarm clocks started fluctuating between two times. And then my cell phone would only show a picture of one of those dirt-moving construction truck things. Cue panic. There was also the dream about the band of car thieves in China (don't ask how I knew it was China, I don't know) who weren't at all Asian, who would steal perfectly fine cars, strip them half way down, put in horrific little 'extras' (like satin covers on the front seats while the roof was gone), and then try to sell them back to the owners. All of the melanamine lectures must be getting to me.

Third: He didn't even bother to say good morning, but at some point between me getting up and getting my breakfast, and coming back up here, Slater has taken over my pillow. It's like he was just waiting for me to get up.

Fourth: I forgot to say earlier: I have finally won over Sunny! He sat on my lap on Saturday night and purred. I have pictures. :D

I am Done With Classes This Quarter. Officially.

I'm just not done with finals. But I have all my notes printed out (unless some prof uploads something right under the wire), and I have a whole weekend, and...

Um...

...

I have tea?

And a dog.

And three cats.

Thankfully not all in the same spot.

Lalala only five more days to go.
bodldops: (cute kitten)
1)I hateses early morning, I do, precious. But Trapper liked her Hanukkah gift (I's made cookies), and thus armed we cheerfully ignored the bossiness and general annoyingness of Frank. At least she'll be busy all surgery and thus cannot be bothering us. Yay. Also, our dog is made of cute (so long as you don't open his mouth - omg horrible teeth, with an atrocious underbite), and stood perfectly still for a jugular stick. Good doggie! He's going to a rescue group when he leaves us. :D! Sadly? I did not bring my camera. WOE!

2)Did... okay on the quiz? Not as well as I'd liked - one question I really really should have gotten, and another I... sorta got? Ish. But the rest were okay. \o/

3)My big sib thinks I should adopt Fozzie. She was not moved by my arguments of limited space, no place to put him on the holidays, and the dog-hunting cat. Seeing as she can't even bother to give me an organized test file, I am taking these recommendations with an ocean-ful of salt. He's up for adoption in June. *pimps out my doggie*

4)Evidently I looked like I needed extra sugar this morning, because when I got to the bottom of my mocha I was greeted by a thick layer of syrupy sludge. There were faces of GAH TOO SWEET BLEH!

5)Martha has started hunting poor Bussy. This does not bode well for Bussy.

6)I have downloaded my latest round of pics onto the PC, now I just need to fight with webshots to get them up here. >.> Tonight. Definitely tonight. Unless it's tomorrow.

7)My neuro final is going to be multiple choice! \o/
bodldops: (cute kitten)
1) Frank is at it again. Trapper is surgeon on Wednesday, and bounced over to the section where Frank and I sit to say she's going to examine said dog at a certain time tomorrow.
Frank? Gave her non-answer which history has proven means: "No chance in hell".

Nice, Frank.

2) Walked to school again, after doing so yesterday. Am contemplating the hattrick, but I'm not sure when I'd be getting out of lab tomorrow, and walking in the dark isn't much fun. That said, that particular lab tends to get out eons early, so.

3) Weight loss for the month of November: 1lb.

*SIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIGH*

The worst thing is I know what I'm doing wrong, I just... keep doing it.

4)The ROTC boys next door have us whupped on Christmas decorations. They've got a wreath up, they've got a lit and decorated Christmas tree... I've been told in years past they've even put out singing Christmas lights. I'd better get cracking.

5) Mucho studying today. *eyes calendar and tells self it is only 9 more days*

6) Re: Amazing Race - Go little gothbunnies go! They bring me much glee.

7) Dear Hershey/Nestle/whatever company you are now:
NO MINT CHOCOLATE KISSES?!? This is truly not keeping with the spirit of Christmas here, people. I'm sorry, but those mint truffle thingys Just Don't Cut It. I need my mint chocolaty goodness! Don't make me go buy the M&Ms, they aren't as good.
(If there are no mint M&Ms I'm gonna cry. Right there in the store.)
No love,
Me

PASSED SURGERY LECTURE CLASS WITH A B.

Am now freakishly wide awake due to a massive dose of adrenaline which came when I got on the all-having website and found I had to add up my grades from the various professors that wrote the test to get the final grade.

But. Good way to start a test day.
bodldops: (Default)
Both tests over.

One (the SA quiz) I'm pretty certain I got a perfect score on. \o/

The other?

Pretty sure I passed?

Dear Professor who wrote the suture questions:
Was it really clinically relevant to ask the connect the dots question about scientific and commercial names for various types of synthetic suture, when you didn't emphasize that at all in lecture, and kept going on about how we needed to focus on 'broad concepts'?

Glad you only had a short section,
No love,
Me.
