Rambly-ness
Jun. 5th, 2004 06:38 pmYes, I'm avoiding schoolwork. No, I'm not ashamed. *grin*
I reffed three games today as an AR. Absolutely beautiful day - startling blue sky, golden hills shining in the sun, warm with the perfect breeze to make my flags snap and flutter... this is why everyone moves to California. And lo and behold, most of the parents behaved this time... There was the coach who believed that volume = good coaching skill... honestly, if I had to hear him scream 'pressure' one more time, I was going to hit him with my flag. The kids weren't listening to him anyway -they were too busy losing 6-zip. Ouch. The other encounter was the uber!soccer!mom... she was trying to organize her daughter's game (on a different field, in an hour), and thought that asking me very pointed questions in a border-line rude voice while I was trying to make sure my center didn't get run over by hyperactive 10-year-old boys was an excellent idea. I think she got the point when I tore off after the ball and the attacker who was busy making a goal. So now I'm thirty bucks richer, and I have a sunburn on my forehead. Coulda sworn I put sunblock up there... I always manage to burn somewhere. Botheration. At least it isn't too bad.
*sigh* Smarty Jones lost the Belmont. Very disappointing. After that Preakness win, I thought he was nearly impossible to beat. Shows what I know... though there was this one guy who bought 6000 tickets for Smarty Jones. At two bucks each. Someone's gonna be crying in his beer tonight. And someone made a boatload of money on the winner - he wasn't even a favorite for placing. Sheesh. Ah well, he's still a very pretty horse, and that's all that counts in my book.
Oh, can I mention that Irish Tenor guy who sang "New York, New York" before the race? Hello, not opera... it was so bad. I had visions of Simon Cowell saying something snarky after his performance. This all besides the fact that it would be more appropriate for the state song to be sung, not a show-tune...
Okay, back to my breed project. Next up, Chinchillas!
