Ever have days when you don't really feel like anything? The day itself was actually pretty good - stayed awake and focused in class, lab was mercifully short, got in a good two mile run, at least one of the people I liked on American Idol got through... but it was a very bleh kind of day. Maybe it's the weather, or lack of long periods of sunshine. I rather dislike winter. I like driving in predawn darkness, I hate getting up in predawn darkness. I love the idea of being awake and going before the rest of the world has finished battering their alarm clocks into submission, I hate the actual getting up and going part of the whole deal.
I've been told (by very reassuring co-workers and friends) that all I need to do is replace all of the bulbs in the house with those full-spectrum ones. I don't have the heart to tell them that we already did that, years ago - my dad gets the same way I do in the winter. So much for that theory, eh? Besides that, due to work, I already spend a lot of time outdoors... Whatever. Only a month or so of true winter weather, then the sun will return for good, the land will dry out, the birds will come back, and things will stop being blah.
On a completely different subject... Kudos to the mayor of San Fran. It's about time someone in power took on the issue of same-sex marriages. Either marriage by state is a issue of law, and since the law sees all people as equal, it makes very little sense to distinguish between the sexes on this one point; or marriage is something related to religion only, and the government has no business giving special privilages to married people, has no business giving marriage licences, no business sticking it's nose in there at all. Seperation of church and state, remember? If they're gonna hammer that one judge about putting up the Ten Commandments up on his wall, why aren't they hammering the people who argue against government-sanctioned marriages on a moral basis?
For the record, I'm Christian. For me, personally, in my life, I believe that for me to love a woman in that way would be wrong, a sin against God. However, my Lord told me not to judge others... in fact, he said to love them. Fine. In that case, why should I be denying other, seemingly loving, couples the same rights I expect some day? Baffles the mind, yup.
Oh, and Mr. Bush can please shut up now. Good grief, almost the entire international community is ticked off at us, the budget is a mess, soldiers are dying every day with no end of this occupation in sight, and he goes off about same-sex marriages and steroids. C'mon, priorites! Just because this is an election year does not mean you get to play around, sir! *grumbles* Gonna switch to Democrat one of these days, just see if I don't...
Oh, I haven't ranted about my cases at the shelter for a while... there was a Rottie/cross puppy (maybe 4 months? Perhaps a bit older?) brought in over the weekend... came in as a hit by car, though we are beginning to suspect it is an abuse case. The thing is, the poor pup is _covered_ in pepper spray. The first time I gave her an IM shot, I had a long coughing fit aftwerwards, and my eyes itched horribly. Pepper spray is nasty stuff... poor little pup. One of the ACT's gave her a sponge bath, so at least her poor eyes aren't so red.
Or how about the owner surrender that came in the other day... a small-ish black and white cat with horrible skin lesions and what looks to be glacoma... and a horrid temperment. You scruff her, she explodes. Niiiiice. I love owners who won't take responsiblity for their pets' medical problems. I mean, the owner had to know that we would have to do extensive hands-on treatment to save this kitten, and the owner also had to know that her precious cat (or not so precious) hated to be held... what, did she add two and two together and get five? I love people some days, yup.
This is getting long. I'll stop now. Next episode: Git-boy and why he really needs to drop out of the vet tech program before someone finally has enough of his attitude.
