Drawing a Picture

Because someday I might want this.
The Air Force-Houston game is on, and no one is listening to it, but it makes a lot of familiar sound, like every other football game that's ever been on the tv set and studiously not watched. The Christmas decorations are still up - two stockings hand-made by mom, with their little hangers, a red 'NOEL' flanked by tree-bearing Santas and giant candles in even more monstrous glass containers, a Poinsettia looking quite happy with the indoor warmth. The bookshelf by the sliding-glass door has been covered with cloth woven in red and green and white, and covered with the cards recieved this year - some funny, some thoughtful, some with pictures of friends and family on. The comics are on the couch, waiting for someone to pick them up and find them funny. There's two small boxes of chocolates on center leather cushion, along with other things - a monstrous pile of gardening supply catalogs, a book on digital photography, the remotes to all of the machines in the room, and a scattering of Readers Digest magazines. The two horns are on the hearth, though I won't be helping to blow them this year. There's a wooden duck on the side table behind where I'm sitting on the floor, typing - it seems to be staring at me, eerily. There's a picture of a fiddler on the mantle, near one of the giant candles - deliciously Old World and making me repeatedly add 'travel somewhere outside the US' to my mental 'To Do' list. There's also a basket on the hearth - one of Grandpa's, all golden wood and weaving.
