Association Meme: Comment to this post and I will give you 5 subjects/things I associate you with. Then post this in your LJ and elaborate on the subjects given.

The subjects I was given by Cam:
1. Veterinary medicine
2. Doctor Who
3. Star Wars secondary characters
4. California
5. Batshit plans

Will provide answers post-sx. Must go run my dog to radiology now.

1. Veterinary Medicine
I first heard about Vet Med through James Herriot. One of the tv shows I can remember since... ever, is 'All Creatures Great and Small'. And then I found out there was a book. And then a whole series of books. Then I found out that biology? Was interesting. I liked diseases, though the idea of treating people is squicky. So I went to undergrad, in Animal Science, which completely prepares you for running a dairy farm. I wish I was kidding. Anyway, having no desire to run a dairy farm, or any other sort of farm, I applied to vet school.
And failed.
And was told I shouldn't apply to UCD again, because there's no way I'd get in.
So I went to vet tech school, and kicked butt at it, and was a tech at a local shelter for two years, during which time I kicked butt there too.
And then I applied to vet school again - UCD, Florida, Washington, ... and I'm pretty sure there was somewhere else, but I can't remember. Got acceptance letters from UCD and Florida, and was waitlisted at Washington, but I got in to UCD and that was the end of it ta very much.
And it turns out, after all this, out of my original interest, I'm most like James Herriot than Seigfreid or Tristan Farnon. Which may not be a bad thing.

2. Doctor Who
I first became interested, actually, through 'All Creatures Great and Small'. Well, no, that's a lie. The very first time I'd heard of it is when the BBC did that joint movie with Fox of great attrociousness. I only lasted through the first half before deciding that was horribly bad and who'd ever watch that?
And then the 'All Creatures Great and Small' kicked in. Because the guy who plays Tristan? Plays the Fifth Doctor. And I was scanning channels late one night, because I was awake and no one else was, and there was Tristan!
In a very weird costume!
...
Were those aliens?
...
Whut?
So I hunted down a tv guide (this being the days before TiVo or anything like that) and figured out that this very cracked-out show was 'Doctor Who'. So, during the next trip to the library, I looked for videos of the same. I found one... but it had a different guy on the cover. Being very confused, I got it anyway, and it was 'Battlefield' with Seven and Ace, and... the rest is history. :D

3. Star Wars secondary characters
Yes, everyone loves Han and Luke and Leia, and Darth Vader is fun and the Emperor is creepy. (Though, Luke can be v. annoying, seriously, stop whining, geeze.)
But the secondary characters are more interesting. Especially when they get an awesome spin-off series of books like Wedge and his pilots did. Long after the main pups become so freaking over-dramatized like a soap opera gone wrong (Luke. You're marrying someone who swore to kill you. Brains, you has none.), the secondary characters still have that fun, wacky attitude that made us all like Star Wars in the first place.

4. California
Some states have songs. We have several records by the Beach Boys. A couple of our cities even have their own songs. We have sunshine and clean-ish air most places and free natural rollercoasters and an awesome coastline and the Governator. We also have the country's most torn-up roads, no state budget, a possible incoming tax on veterinary services, Hollywood, the Governator, drought, free natural rollercoasters, and people who chain themselves to trees on a regular basis.
It's a good state. It's not a perfect state. But it's good.

5. Batshit plans
I make them. I wanna run a marathon, I wanna travel all over Europe, I wanna...
Do a lot of things.
And if I keep making batshit plans, maybe some more reasonable ones that closely approximate the crazy plans will be easier to manage.

Dog is out of surgery, and my knee is killing me something fierce. Ow. But I did work out this morning, with my new DVD of exercise doom, and very nearly experienced the joy of losing the breakfast I hadn't had yet thanks to that.
Anyway. Waiting for my dog to wake up, and then will get on with getting out of here for the day.
