No, it was mentioned in passing he was a dad once. Period. And seeing as he was travelling with his granddaughter, Susan, when the show started in 1963, the Doctor's offhand remark has an entirely benign explanation. I'll be sending RTD a letter of complaint if he pulls any soap opera crap like a long-lost son. Oh, and since he's on his 10th incarnation, he has three left, not two.
Sadly, that was what I thought. I'm all for the show going on, but RTD is a liiiiittle too fond of the soap operatic. I still love the show... but I'm eyeing Mr. Davies askance.
Well, it couldn't have been an absolutely staid thing with 2.5 kids and a white picket fence - for some reason continuously unexplained the Doctor was on the run in an out-of-date TARDIS stolen from the shipyards with his very young granddaughter who was abandoned without a second look on Earth the first time she showed interest in a guy. Considering it's taken nine regenerations to even bring up the subject of family again... something happened. I'm not saying wangstful interspecies WOE but... something.
Also, there is no way in hell they can beat the soap-operaness of the movie, and we've already been subjected to that horror.
