So many things happening, so few updates on my part...

I had my microbio lab final today. I think I did pretty good... even though I'm fairly sure I goofed the thiogylcalate problem. Bother. I can't remember if I put facultative anaerobe or aerotolerant anaerobe. I probably put down the wrong one - that stuff refuses to stay in my head. However, one question out of fifty is hardly going to give me an F, so I refuse to mope about it. What is slightly more mope-worthy is that was the last class with one of the best prof's I've met on campus - Karen Erikson. If anyone reading this ever has to take a Bio class at Foothill, try to get her. She rocketh muchly, and is uber-cool to boot. Kudos to Karen!

Yesterday I actually got blood from a cat's jugular vein on the first try. *shock* That vein is my personal nemesis, and I was so shocked when I hit it. Afterwards my hands were shaking so badly I could barely get the blood into the storage tubes. The second cat was less successful, but that was a different problem. I hit the vein (both of them, actually) easily, but then the cat would jerk away, my needle would slip, and both veins were blown before the job was done. Finally Dr. Chad had to get the last cc or so. Still... that's the best jugular stick I'ver ever done. Yay for me!

*glowers at scale* Dangit, I've cut down on the chocolate big time, I'm running all the time, you could at least have the decency to go down a bit. Grrrrrr... *resolves to buy a new scale, since this one is obviously broken*

I have discovered a new favorite song. It's "Lullaby (Goodnight My Angel)" by Billy Joel. I'm writing down the lyrics in case I want to refer to them later, since they are spawning so many evil plotbunnies...

Goodnight my angel, time to close your eyes,
And save these questions for another day.
I think I know what you've been asking me,
I think you know what I've been trying to say

I promised I would never leave you,
And you should always know,
Where ever where you go
No matter where you are
I never will be far
Away.

Good night my angel, now it's time to sleep,
And still so many things I want to say.
Remember all the songs you sang for me
When we went sailing on an emerald bay

And like a boat out on the ocean,
I'm rocking you to sleep.
The water's dark and deep
Inside this ancient heart
You'll always be a part
Of me.

Goodnight my angel, now it's time to dream
And dream how wonderful your life will be
Someday your child may cry
And if you sing this lullaby
Then in your heart
There will always be a part
Of me

Someday we'll all be gone.
But lullabys go on and on,
They never die,
That's how you and I
Will be.

*sighs happily* Of course, all the plotbunnies being spawned involve one of my romantically-involved muses getting killed off, so I'm not likely to indulge them...

Oh, and I found a rather scary song too... "Captain Jack" by, again, Billy Joel. It's... rather scary to a PPCer. I fear that this is what inspires many PotC-sues. Billy-boy, you're letting the team down.

Mmmm... Billy Joel... Piano Man...*blinks* Right then.

Congrats on the whole hitting the jugular vein thingy. *Thumbs up* Keep it up and you'll be bleeding cats in no time.

Very pretty song, very sad.

Almost makes you want to write a "what if?" scenario with Sallyn and Raina?

Of course, that would inevitably turn out like the E&E argument, which was difficult to write. Minus the good ending. o_o

*nods* That's what the plotbunnies want. I'm not listening to them though... my Sallyn muse would kill me.

Of course, it would work the other way around too...Of course, in which case, Sallyn-muse would kill me. And then you, for starting the whole mess.

Go you!

Hitting the jugular on a cat is a pain in the bum. Go you for hitting it. On the first try, no less. I so detest jugular draws on cats, I'd rather go for the saphenous (sp?) vein. Truly. Or the femoral. ANYTHING but the jugular. On larger cats (i.e, cougars), you go for the front leg. The only problem is how bloody 'roll'y the veins are, but I can usually get them pinned down well enough to get 'em on the first (or second) try.

I _love_ femorals. You're right though... cephalic has to be the worst vein ever on a cat, with jugular a very very close second. I don't care what my lab prof says, they roll!
O.O You've done blood draws on the big cats? *is supremely jealous* Where did you work, and how can I apply?

I don't work there. I was doing volunteer work at the zoo near where I used to go to school, and the animal curator knew I was a Licensed Veterinary Technician, so she liked to have me around when vet-type stuff was going on so, if the vet needed a hand with something she didn't know how to do, or couldn't legally do, I could give him a hand. I was along the day he did a physical on a cougar, and he asked me if I wanted to give it a try. Hey, why not? I hit it on the first try, which impressed him. Heck, it impressed me, as I hadn't done many blood draws in quite a while (long story).
