Live, love, and everything

The Kentucky Derby is tomorrow! Now I'm not a betting woman, but I love to see horses race. It's just beautiful. So you'd better believe that I'm going to be watching the Derby. The favorite (at the moment) seems to be "The Cliff's Edge". *stares at name* That's... different. The underdog, at 50-1 (ouch), is "Birdstone". I think I might just cheer for Birdstone - someone's gotta. My favorite _name_ of all the starters is "Lion Heart". Yes, someone read Robin Hood way too many times. Tough choice, who to root for. Maybe I'll just wait and see which horse is prettier. *laughs at her own superficial way of choosing a horse*
Work on Thursday was hard. Doctor Thompson (who seriously rocks) was there again, and we kept finding cats that were two steps away from dying. Most we had to put down immediately, because they were in such horrible condition. One poor tabby had ulcers under her tounge and all over her jaws. End-stage renal failure, horrible thing. Then there was one old girl.... I left the shelter crying that day because of her. She was ancient, Doctor T said she was probably over 18 years old. She was thin as a rail, not eating, bad teeth, bad circulation, bad... everything. Poor girl didn't have much time left. Poor old girl didn't complain though. When I was petting her, she'd chirrup, and do that whole head-butting/rolling/kneading thing that makes me fall in love every single time. Darnit, crying now thinking about her. She must have been simply gorgeous in her prime, a silver-grey tabby siamese cross. *sigh* The main problem was that the poor old girl had just come in as a stray - the law required us holding the cat at the shelter for five days unless we put her down for most humane. Now, Doctor T has this wonderful yard at the cat rescue she runs where old cats like my poor old girl can sit in the sun for their last few days. I really hope she got permission to take her. Five days at a stressful shelter, surrounded by noisy dogs and machinery, with a high chance of catching URI is not how that poor old girl deserves to live out her last days.
*is going to stop thinking about it so I'll stop crying*
Something happy, talk about something happy...
Martha's a dang cute kitten.
Went running today, first time in two weeks. Only a mile and a quarter (my new running shoes are horrid. Need good running shoes!), but it still felt good. Then I danced for a while, so I got a decent workout.

Date: 2004-05-01 07:58 am (UTC)Never said I'd get to see it in person. The once-a-year horse racing coverage is the best I can get. I wanna move to Kentucky.

As it is, I'm gonna have to go all the way out to California to pester you, so it would make things a lot easier for me.*innocent grin*
