You got fired?! Oh no! Why? I thought you were doing a great job there! You sounded like you were putting in 110%!! Those bastards! I'll hit them with a dried salami!
I've been told the difference between 'laid off' and 'fired' is important. In my case, it's 'laid off'. Same bloody difference. I got the whole "It's not you, it's us" speech... am rather proud of myself, didn't give that .... mrrr... person the satifaction of seeing me cry.
Whatever the difference, you're still out of work. I've gotten the same speech and tried not to cry while I was getting let go but you can bet I cried in the car and when I got home. *HUGS* Why'd they let you go?
Well, the San Jose shelter (city-run) opened last month, and since then HR has been on a firing spree. Their reasoning is that since less animals are coming in (we don't get San Jose, Milpitas, or... is it Los Gatos? *Shrug* strays anymore), less people are needed to work. Lots of people who have worked most of their lives at the shelter have been let go. I didn't think it would effect the medical department, since a good half of our staff left as soon as the SJ shelter opened. Medical department tends to get beat up from almost every quarter - we are in the way in the stray cat kennels (we're vaccinating against panleuk), we don't get to all of the vet evals (one vet vs. fifty evals plus appointments. Yeah.), we don't... I don't know, kowtow properly? *shrugs* Doesn't matter now, does it? Poor Chad was going around yesterday grumbling about how they were going to keep cutting staff on him until he was working alone.
What? That's awful! Ok, well the difference between 'fired' and 'laid off' is that you're eligible for unemployment if you're 'only laid off'. Welcome to the ranks of the job-seekers. You may whine and cry with me any time. {{hugs}}
